F. Phelps Ltd has a very busy and thriving workshop which benefits from great knowledge and combined expertise of Mila Strnad, Managing Director and Lada Prokop a senior restorer who is also responsible for day to day running of the workshop.

Lada comes from highly distinguished violin making family in Czech republic. Indeed, Lada had received training from his famous grandfather (Ladislav Prokop), who was one of the great Bohemian makers of his time.

Although Mila spends a lot of time in dealing directly with customers as well as travelling round the world in search of fine instruments and bows, he likes to devote as much time as possible to the workshop as he really enjoys working on master repairs and restorations.

Phelps speciality and particular interests are in setting up of instruments in order to achieve the optimum sound and comfort of play. We are always sensitive to players’ specialised requests in order to satisfy their individual needs. That combined with our ability to play ourselves, always guarantees a successful outcome.

Bow rehairs

F. Phelps Ltd. provides very accurate and efficient bow rehair service using only the finest hair.

We normally rehair bows from one day to next. In addition we offer one day or one hour express rehair service for which there is an additional charge.
